You're only as cool as your last blog entry....

I'm more of a thinker than a writer.  Not in a wanky way, it's just pure laziness on my part.  It's far more fun thinking up ideas, but when it comes to having to sit down and execute them on paper, well, I get distracted.   Hence, this blog stuff is testing me.

It got me thinking about how everything these days is so "now", like it dissolves, the moment it is said, or worn, or seen, or heard.

It's like we're all tweeting, facebooking, blogging, within an inch of our lives and as soon as we hit the enter key and the thought is hurled into cyberspace, it is old....and we are mindlessly frantically searching for that next big thing.

This kind of depressed me because I thought of Generation Y and how this affects them in the long run, always in pursuit of "next" and whether they will ever slow down and just be present in now.

But then I thought of the positive.  Words are only words.  I think when I was growing up, and in previous generations, we seemed to give them more power.  We worried more about what people thought of us, the gossip that would ensue if we dared to live a life left of centre or the shame our past deeds could bring.

I think this new way of living gives us the opportunity to dare to do or say whatever the hell we want, without fear of judgement of the masses.  And if they do judge, move on.  Bloody Quickly.  Who cares if Lady Gaga wears an outfit made of meat.  The sun will still rise tomorrow, and besides, that was sooooo last Tuesday!

So, when people say they don't like certain blogs because they are trying to sell stuff or dangle carrots in front of their audience of the latest big thing, I say, pfffftttt.  I make no excuse for the fact that sometimes my blog is about random stuff in my life, and sometimes, it's showing people new stuff in the shop.  It is what it is.

So, as you approach the end of this entry, remember that it's already old news and past tense...and go forth and discover that next big thing....or anything else your heart desires, in wild abandon.

A bird in the hand....

......is soft, silky, decadent and sublime.  A Nancybird handbag that is.  Remember back in the 80's when we had "scratch & sniff" stickers, where if you scratched the sticker with a picture of a say, a banana on it, the sticker smelt EXACTLY like banana? I wish I had a "pat & melt" sticker that I could email to you to print off so you could have a virtual caress of a Nancybird handbag.

For those of you who have seen Nancybird handbags & wallets in the flesh, you probably have goosebumps right now...but for those of you who haven't seen or felt a Nancybird, you are soooo missing out.  I gotta tell you.

We have recently become Nancybird stockists. After years of scoping out the possibility and hoping that it would come to fruition, we can now throw our hands up in the air to the handbag gods and say our thank you.

Nancybird is a Melbourne based accessories label, focusing on quality materials and playful, thoughtful design. Much of the range has been hand printed by local Melbourne makers. All leathers are custom made in Italy in gorgeous seasonal colours. The collection has a distinctively Australian feel, using raw, earthy materials with influences from Africa, Japan and Central Europe.

Isn't it about time you gave yourself the bird?

Sweet New Stuff

Just got these little puppies in....sweet as!  They're jerry can suitcases.

They are the real deal, made of steel not plastic, so they're super strong.

We haven't had a chance to put them on the website yet, but they are $149.00.  The RRP was $319 but were able to score a bargain from our supplier who had them on sale...and we're passing that saving on to you because, well, let's face it, you're a legend!

Bon Voyage, you hipster you.

Ego is not a dirty word

I woke up this morning to the beautiful swish of traffic in the rain only to realise in that magical nano-second that only happens as your brain defrosts from sleep...."I don't have to get up today, it's my day off"...sweet as apples!

Fed the hungry puppies, hopped in the hot shower and high-tailed it to our favourite new cafe in town Ego's Culinaria owned by Christian Reuther.

I know it's a big call, but I reckon this joint is the single best cafe, hands down, in this area.  The overall vibe of the place is just as Goldilocks would have liked...not too busy, not too quiet. There's always someone you know having some breaky that you can have a chat to, or a newspaper to devour over your morning cup of joe.  You kinda feel like you've entered the "Cheers Bar"....where everybody knows your name....[sing along here].

There's a gorgeous adjoining gift shop called Peonies & Picnics to have a squiz at while you're waiting for your food which sells decadently beautiful french homewares and gifts.

But the real clincher is the food. And oh my god, it is just divine.  Today I had Spicy chick peas & asparagus with home made turkish bread & water melon salad.  Kyla had home made crumpets with poached pears, bacon & maple syrup.  Rock n Roll!

Christian's cakes are another whole blog entry I tell you, so I'll save that story for another time, but I had to take some photos because they were just amazing.

Mel & Dan who work there make THE BEST soy lattes around and are suspiciously happy all the time...maybe because they know they know they've got the best hospitality gig in town, hanging out with all those bloody cakes!

Anyway, if you are visiting Daylesford or are a local here, Ego's Culinaria.....GET ON IT!

Best Friends Forever...

I was out on a jog yesterday and BAM out of nowhere, a name jumps into my head that I hadn't thought of since 1973...that's right, 19 fricken 73! Far out man, I am vintage.  Anyway, I digress, I won't say this person's name for fear they google themselves one day and end up reading this and freak out, but for the purpose of this blog, let's call her "Karly Parker" wink wink...

Anyway, all of a sudden I thought, "Karly Parker", oh my god, I remember that little girl, she used to live over my back fence and I used to slide through a couple of loose palings to get to her house because, even then as a 4 year old, I was a lazy little nugget...

I got to wondering about her and how she moved away before we both started school and wondered what ever happened to her. I vividly recalled swimming in her very groovy pebblecrete in-ground pool which I thought was WAY COOL because ours was only a dodgy above-ground pool which was green half the year because, like me, my parents were lazy nuggets too.

I used to love playing with Karly Parker and I was in awe of all her Barbies and the Ken & Barbie Van of awesomeness.  Even though I was only 4 years old, I remember thinking we'd be besties forever and we'd grow up and both get married and have nice husbands and chubby little babies and sit around feeding them bottles together, just like we did with our Barbies.

Well, my life couldn't have turned out any more polar opposite.

I guess the photo was a dead giveaway really.

Me & Karly.  I still have knock knees, and she will always be, My "Miss World 1973".
